A Brand New Day

Most of us like new things. A new car, new house, new clothes and on and on. The list only stops when we start to settle. I had a wardrobe malfunction this week and the bottom of my shoe partially came off.  It created a problem for me because I was not able to change shoes from my present location. But the real problem was, I should have thrown those shoes away last year. Sometimes we hold on to things we need to let go.

Today as I write this post in the northwest the Sun is not shining, it’s still dark outside. We are in the middle of January and the temperature is in the teens. The ground is covered with snow and ice. Cold and gloomy would be a good description of what my physical eyes can see. Thank God for spiritual eyes that can help us see beyond current circumstances and open our eyes to the beauty just ahead.

God’s word tells us in Psalms 118:24 “This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it”. Just knowing that God made the day can encourage you to get going. It shows how little control you have and how much he has. A Brand New Day is in front of you to right some wrongs, make some memories, share a few laughs or call someone you have been thinking about.

God’s word tells us in Lamentations 3: 22-23 “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion’s fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness”. It’s a Brand New Day with new mercies. Yesterday is gone, over, final – no going back. Stop holding on to yesterday’s troubles. I claim the day and it’s going to be a good day. Today has great possibilities right in front of you.
